A West End gem, the Sylvia Hotel is a designated heritage building located right next to English Bay. It was built in 1912 and many of the original features remain today. Rumor has it there is a resident ghost, which doesn't seem all that surprising. Sip on arguably the best ceasers in the city while people watching on the perfectly located patio downstairs.

Times Square Suites is located in the West End/Coal Harbour area, steps from the famous Stanley Park. The location is a little ways from the downtown action, which might be appealing to some guests. The suites range in size and appear spacious and clean. Located right on Denman Street, the hotel is steps away from English Bay and all the restaurant options down the street.

Perched in the centre of downtown Vancouver, the hotel features first class everything, down to the highly regarded Hawksworth Restaurant beneath. Not in the mood for a meal? Beneath the hotel is award-winning restaurant Bacchus which has been a popular hang out destination for celebrities. Also worth mentioning is the world class spa that is reviewed very highly.

Victorian Hotel Vancouver

This renovated, boutique hotel is quite the charmer. Located on the edge of Gastown, suites have been renovated enough to make guests feel clean and comfortable, while still maintaining character elements like the Juliette balconies, original hardwood flooring, and Victorian furniture.

L'Hermitage Hotel

Consistently ranked as one of the best hotels in Vancouver, L'Hermitage is a 'must stay' for visitors wanting to be in the heart of the action. There is an outdoor salt water lap pool, expansive fitness facility and a outdoor garden area. Bonus points: A new wine bar/restaurant, Tappo, opened beneath the hotel recently. It replaced the always impressive Q4 but the new concept is definitely worth checking out. Not so bonus points: The Telus Garden mega construction site is across the street and depending which way the suite faces, alarm clocks will be replaced by jack hammering.

Moda Hotel

Another noteworthy downtown Vancouver boutique hotel is Moda. Located at a prime corner location, the hotel itself is small and quaint with the perfect mix of hip and historic allure. Head downstairs for some of the best cocktails at Uva Wine Bar (which also serves breakfast in the AM) before stumbling a few steps over to the award-winning Cibo Trattoria. Also in the building is a local wine and beer store with some of the most interesting items found in Vancouver.

The Burrard

A couple years ago, this 1950s era landmark hotel never would have made any 'best of' lists. Why is it worthy now? After new ownership took over a few years back, the place under went a complete reno which turned the cool factor up by at least a thousand points. Ultra-mod furniture, funky paint colours, and host to some of the best parties in the city (this year's halloween party was the place to be), the Burrard is a boutique hotel worthy of a reintroduction.

This boutique hotel is located in the heart of Yaletown (for better or worse) and provides a fresh, hip vibe among a host of uptight, flavourless hotels. The lobby and hallways are something out of a nightclub and the rooms feature brightly painted walls and shiny everything. The revolving list of bars beneath the hotel play host to events all year round and have often featured Vancouver's local celebrities (the Vancouver Canucks of course) who are known to pop in for a cocktail after a game.

Granville Island Hotel
