Vancouver Art Gallery Faces $150M Fundraising Hurdle

The struggle continues for the Vancouver Art Gallery to kick off development of their full city block proposed relocation site at West Georgia and Cambie Street. The city has maintained their stance on requiring the gallery to raise an additional $150 million in funding and they have to get the dollars by April 2015. Yikes. Both federal and provincial representatives have said the project is 'too expensive' and are reluctant to contribute any more funds. At present, the Vancouver Art Gallery is looking else where for funds from the private sector. If relocated, the gallery will occupy a full city block and increase its floor plate significantly to over 300,000 square feet.
