Kitsilano Secondary School is next in line to receive a $62.2 million seismic upgrade since being labelled a "high-risk facility" in the event of an earthquake. The Vancouver School Board announced last month that the nearly 100 year old building will get a new academic wing, a 350-seat theatre and a couple new gymnasiums. Construction is slated to commence this fall and will be complete in fall 2017, making this the longest running seismic upgrade. This isn't the first Vancouver school to undergo these safety precautions. Since 1996, 22 schools have received safety improvements with a total dollar amount around $2.2 billion.
