This year the city has surpassed last year's numbers for new rental housing development. Quoted from Mr. Mayor himself: "City Hall remains focused on enabling new rental housing to help people who can't afford to buy in Vancouver, particularly seniors, students, and young families." 1097 rental units were approved this year, in comparison to 1,021 last year and a big fat zero for years 2008 and 2009 combined.
