"This is the sort of thing you would expect in Detroit - Not Vancouver." - Michael Geller, a urban planner and developer spoke of the uneven and patchwork faux cobblestone streets in Gastown. Since the city can no longer source the tiles to replace holes or uneven roadways, the current band-aid approach was to infill with asphalt. Alas, the city is looking into other options for the historic neighbourhood and has hired a consultant to determine what the future of Gastown streets will look like. [CBC]
