A popular short term apartment rental site, Airbnb.com, has recently come under fire from a few big shots at City Hall. Airbnb has more than 1,000 listings in Vancouver and Vancouver's housing services director has written a report with concerns relating to "hotel competition, zoning, permits, unpaid taxes, security and the impact on the long-term rental supply." On the flip side, all hosts are required by Airbnb to confirm that they have abided by all local regulations. A spokesman for the company also said that each host is offered up to $1 million in insurance coverage by Airbnb.
